ANCHORAGE, Alaska — U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola’s husband has died in an airplane crash, her place of work mentioned in a commentary Wednesday.

“We are devastated to share that Mary’s husband, Eugene Peltola Jr. — ′Buzzy’ to all of us who knew and loved him — passed away earlier this morning following a plane accident in Alaska,” her leader of body of workers, Anton McParland, mentioned in the commentary.

No different information about the crash have been instantly to be had. A message left with the National Transportation Safety Board in Anchorage was once now not instantly returned Wednesday.

Peltola was once returning to Alaska from Washington, D.C., to be along with her circle of relatives, and McParland requested for his or her privateness because the circle of relatives grieves.

“He was completely devoted to his parents, kids, siblings, extended family, and friends — and he simply adored Mary. We are heartbroken for the family’s loss,” McParland mentioned.

Peltola, an Alaska Democrat, was once elected to a complete time period in the U.S. House in November, months after profitable a different election following the dying of U.S. Rep. Don Young. The Republican had held Alaska’s sole House seat for 49 years till his dying.

Peltola, who’s Yup’ik, is the primary Alaska Native to serve in the U.S. House.
