SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The outer bands of Hurricane Franklin lashed Bermuda on Wednesday as the Category 2 storm used to be forecast to cross close to the island positioned within the north Atlantic Ocean.

Franklin had most sustained winds of 105 mph (165 kph) and used to be positioned some 155 miles (250 kilometers) northwest of Bermuda early Wednesday afternoon. It used to be transferring northeast at 13 mph (20 kph) and used to be anticipated to stay spinning thru open waters.

A tropical storm caution used to be in impact for Bermuda, with forecasters caution of life-threatening surf and rip currents for the island and the U.S. East Coast. Several flights to Bermuda have been cancelled on Wednesday.

Officials in Bermuda warned that Hurricane Idalia, which used to be crossing Florida on Wednesday, used to be forecast to in all probability hit the island early subsequent week as a tropical storm.
