Homicide suspect escapes from DC hospital, George Washington University students shelter-in-place for hours

A murder suspect is at the run after escaping from custody at a Washington, D.C., health facility on Wednesday, government mentioned.

Christopher Haynes, 30, used to be arrested on Wednesday. While he used to be being processed, he complained of a preexisting ankle damage, D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith mentioned Thursday.

Haynes used to be taken to George Washington University Hospital, and whilst an officer used to be “changing out his handcuffs” within the emergency room in an effort to protected him to the gurney, “Mr. Haynes physically assaulted that officer and fled,” Smith mentioned.

Two officials have been within the room with Haynes and each pursued him, Smith mentioned.

Haynes escaped at 3:30 p.m. and used to be closing noticed with black handcuffs placing from his proper wrist, in step with police.

The break out brought on a shelter-in-place order Wednesday at George Washington University and the college canceled all of its night categories and occasions.

The college lifted the shelter-in-place order in a while Wednesday night time.

“Police cleared the scene at 23rd Street near GW Hospital and departed,” GW tweeted. “While the suspect has not been apprehended, he is not believed to be in our area.”

There are not any showed sightings of Haynes since he ran from the health facility, Smith mentioned.

Authorities are providing a $25,000 praise for information resulting in Haynes’ arrest, Smith mentioned.
