OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Artists who’re or have skilled homelessness are showcasing a few of their work to the general public.
The artists take part in the Homeless Alliance’s “Fresh stART” program, which is designed to offer individuals experiencing homelessness in Oklahoma City a supportive setting to create artwork.
“Our Fresh stART program helps people develop valuable coping skills with which to handle difficult situations and provides an opportunity to interact with peers in a positive environment,” stated Dan Straughan, government director on the Homeless Alliance. “When an artist sells something that they created, it really helps build their confidence knowing that someone else values their work.”
Participating artists obtain the proceeds from the sale of their artwork.
“(Art helps me) to deal with my day-to-day problems and to have an outlet for my feelings,” stated Fresh stART artist Sean.
In addition to authentic items, artists could have prints, tote luggage, and t-shirts on the market.
The artwork covers quite a lot of mediums together with combined media, collage, watercolor, acrylic and coloured pencil.
The exhibit can be on show at DNA Galleries, positioned at 1709 NW sixteenth, from Jan. 12 by way of Feb. 5.
The gallery is free and open to the general public.
