Budget surplus

Regarding “$33 billion budget surplus marks a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity for Texas lawmakers,” (Jan. 9): As a relentless reader of the Chronicle, I’m effectively conscious of the social wants which might be lagging in our state. Then I see on the entrance web page of Tuesday’s version concerning the state’s projected surplus of $33 billion. In my desires for a greater Texas, I see funds going to Child Protective Services in order that youngsters in that company’s care obtain immediate, protected placements. I see funding put into enhancing psychological well being providers, particularly for younger Texans who suffered most from the pandemic’s social isolation. I think about cash apportioned to enhancing maternal well being care in order that infants would not have to start life with no wholesome mom, or perhaps no mom in any respect. I see funds going to the Texas Medical Board to enhance their depth and timeliness of response to complaints in order that there aren’t any extra motion pictures like “Dr. Death” created from tales in Texas. I see rigorously focused funding made obtainable to gradual the closure of important entry hospitals that serve rural Texans. Is our Legislature awake?

Disappointment

Regarding “In some schools in Va., ‘equity’ seems to mean hiding success,” (Jan. 13): George Will’s article about not disclosing the deserves of scholars struck a chord with me. When my youngsters have been little, a buddy, who was a trainer herself, would preserve her children residence on awards day as a result of they’d “feel bad” in the event that they did not get one. Apparently the varsity purchased into the thought and on awards day, they’d give each single scholar some sort of an award, even when it was simply “good attitude.” I at all times thought this was ridiculous and it did not put together them for actual life, the place when you do glorious work chances are you’ll get a elevate and your coworkers who do not work as exhausting or as effectively do not get a elevate.

I believe a part of the issue with fired individuals returning to work to maim and kill their former coworkers in addition to rejected lovers killing their companions has a direct relationship with not studying to dwell with disappointment earlier in life. Not everybody has equal abilities or intelligence and other people have to study to dwell with the truth that not everybody goes to be on the prime and simply since you need one thing does not imply you’ll get or deserve it.
