ROUND ROCK — The wait will proceed for Frisco.
In the college district’s fourth-ever journey to the UIL baseball state semifinals, a visit to the title recreation stays elusive. Frisco Wakeland — in its third look on the semifinals since 2010 — fell to Georgetown 5-4 on Thursday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Wakeland (2022, 2017, 2010) and Frisco High (1984) are a mixed 0-4 in semifinal video games.
Georgetown (34-7) will play Friendswood (30-7-1) in the 5A state championship recreation on Saturday at Dell Diamond.
“It’s been incredible,” Wakeland coach Matt Sartor mentioned of the postseason, which noticed his crew lose simply as soon as by the primary 5 rounds. “As a coach, all you ask for is for your kids to buy into the program, and buy into the expectations and give it everything they have … and that’s something, as an entire staff, we have really, really enjoyed watching.”

Wakeland (25-14) scored three runs in the highest of the second inning to seize an early lead. Dylan Snead led the inning off and was pushed in by a Mason Priebe double two at-bats later. Priebe then scored on a double from Brendan Freeman to make it 2-0. Jackson Dillingham, Wakeland’s leadoff hitter, drove in Freeman with a single.
Georgetown, which performed in the state semifinals for the third time since 2015, tied the sport with three runs of its personal in the next body. Andon Petty and Zachary Mazoch led the inning off with back-to-back singles, and EJ Davis scored Petty with a single. Landon Hyle drove in Mazoch with a sacrifice fly, and a two-out single from Logan Smith scored Davis to make it 3-3.
Wakeland re-took the lead in the highest of the fourth, as Priebe walked to lead off the inning, superior to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a bunt then scored on a handed ball.
“These guys, they don’t give up,” Sartor mentioned. “That’s one of the things that makes us so proud of them. They’re never out of the fight, ever. It doesn’t matter the circumstances, they’re all pulling for each other.”
Georgetown, although, tied the sport again up in the underside half after Mazoch scored Eli Hellman on a double. Georgetown took the lead for good in the fifth, as Davis led the inning off with a triple and scored on a Hyle single.

Wakeland chased Georgetown starter Nicholas Silva, a Cal State Bakersfield signee, after simply three innings. But senior Wade Denton pitched 4 scoreless, two-hit innings in reduction to bide Georgetown’s offense time to rating.
Wakeland starter Holden Yaksick pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on six hits. Jacob Koczo, in reduction, pitched two innings and allowed one run on two hits.
“My hope is that our underclassmen see what our seniors have done,” Sartor mentioned. “And they follow their lead. As a coach, that’s what we want. We want our seniors to show our underclassmen the way.”
