The Yonkers neighborhood is devastated by the lack of Det. Sgt. Gualdino, saying he was a real hero who at all times had a smile on his face and was at all times prepared to assist out and defend.

Born and raised in Yonkers, the 56-year-old sergeant will likely be laid to relaxation in his hometown. 

“Back in the parish he grew up. I think it’s a great thing,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza informed CBS2.

Tuesday at Gualdino’s wake, mourners gathered to pay their respects. Outside, two firetrucks held a large American flag.

Many bikes may be seen parked in entrance of the funeral house. Gualdino was a member of the motorbike unit. 

The Yonkers police commissioner stated the tragic loss is not simply being felt in New York. 

“I am getting calls and emails, letters of condolences from all over the country right now,” Sapienza stated. 

Police stated last week a young person driving a BMW M5 on the Sprain Brook Parkway overpass smashed into Gualdino’s squad car at a excessive fee of velocity, killing him.

“It’s tragic,” stated Yonkers resident Justin Tubiolo. “We all share that loss, and our condolences go out to the family.”

Gualdino is survived by his mom, three brothers, spouse and two youngsters. 

“Family man, dedicated to both his job and his family,” retired Officer Bill Celestino stated. 

Friends say the police neighborhood will band collectively to present the household as a lot help as they want, however know the tragedy has left a gap in their hearts that may by no means be mended. 

“The only thing more important to him than his job was his family,” stated Celestino.
