France batter Gustav McKeon tops Hazratullah Zazai to become youngest man to score a T20I century

When Gustav McKeon took a single off medium-pacer Ashwin Vinod to get to a 58-ball century in Vantaa on Monday, he entered the report books because the youngest man to score a T20I century. McKeon, the teenaged France opening batter, received to the milestone in a 2024 T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier Group B match towards Switzerland.

At 18 years and 280 days, McKeon is greater than two years youthful than the earlier record-holder, Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai, was when he achieved the feat at 20 years and 337 days again in 2019, in a match towards Ireland in Dehradun. Zazai had scored an unbelievable 162 not out on that event, off simply 62 balls.

France, who had opted to bat first, completed on 157 for five courtesy McKeon’s 61-ball 109, which included 5 fours and 9 sixes. Unfortunately for McKeon, and France, Switzerland chased down the goal off the final ball of the sport for a one-wicket win. Despite that, France are in second place, behind Norway, on the Group 2 desk, with Switzerland a spot under, although France have performed one sport extra at this stage.

For McKeon, it was the right follow-up to the 54-ball 76 he had scored within the earlier match of the competitors, towards Czech Republic in Kerava, in what was his T20I debut. He now has 185 runs within the competitors, at a strike fee of 161 and a median of 92.5.
