Fort Worth police: Officer fired for lying about security job



Police stated in an announcement that Eddie Tellez claimed to have work a couple of hours throughout his shift. Security footage allegedly reveals him leaving after 20 minutes.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) has introduced their third officer firing in a month. They stated this officer was terminated for lying about his shift as an off-duty security guard.

FWPD stated in an announcement that the division launched an investigation after getting a grievance about then-officer Eddie Tellez in July. 

During the investigation, they allegedly discovered an bill from Tellez saying he labored security for round 4 hours. Security digital camera footage confirmed him working for about 20 minutes.

Fort Worth police stated Tellez lied about his shift when he was confronted by the employer he was working with. They stated he claimed to work for 4 hours, however left early for a household emergency. He later admitted to lying about his shift and the emergency, in response to FWPD.

“After a thorough review of the administrative investigation, Chief Noakes determined that Officer Tellez violated multiple FWPD policies and terminated his employment with the department,” the division stated within the assertion. “The Fort Worth Police Department holds its officers to a high standard both on and off-duty, and does not tolerate criminal misconduct or unethical behavior.”

According to FWPD, Eddie Tellez was with the division for 5 years and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
