Florida school districts brace for state oversight of rules on race, gender


The massive story: Today at 10 a.m., the State Board of Education meets via conference call to debate whether or not 10 school districts are violating new state legal guidelines and rules referring to the instruction of race, gender id and sexual orientation.

The Department of Education despatched letters to every of the districts, warning that their insurance policies on issues akin to pronoun use and restroom rules are underneath scrutiny and must be revised.

The Hillsborough County School Board was among the many group receiving such a directive. Its members met Tuesday to debate its response. They talked about whether or not they have sufficient legal professionals to cope with the state. Read about it here.

School self-discipline: The Brevard County School Board unveiled some of its newly proposed tougher discipline policy, WMFE reviews.

Contracts: The Bay County School Board approved a new teacher contract that raises the bottom wage by about $2,000, WMBB reviews.
