A Florida man misplaced his job, suffered from despair and hid in his house after the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his image on “Wheel of Fugitive” movies, in response to a not too long ago filed lawsuit.
David Gay sued the company and Sheriff Wayne Ivey for $50,000, accusing them of defamation and emotional misery after his image and identification had been included in 4 social media movies on Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 of 2021.
“Wheel of Fugitive” is a snippy, weekly video phase spoof of “Wheel of Fortune,” through which Ivey spins a wheel exhibiting what are described as 10 of the county’s most wished fugitives.
Except Gay was within the county jail, not a fugitive, when he appeared within the first three segments, in response to the lawsuit.

Gay had been charged with misdemeanor home battery after he believed his father fought his mom, however the case was finally dismissed, the lawsuit says.
But the arrest violated phrases of his November 2020 sentencing for an undisclosed offense of three years probation for a withhold of adjudication, which is a withholding of a conviction and technically means he was not convicted of an offense.
One of the advantages of a withhold of adjudication sentencing is its influence on job looking, as a result of many employers solely ask if somebody has been convicted of a crime, to which Gay would be capable of say no.
On Feb. 22, 2021, Gay was launched from custody and began a brand new job, in response to the lawsuit.
The subsequent day, Gay appeared within the sheriff’s “Wheel of Fugitive” phase once more. His new employer noticed it and informed him “not to bother showing” for work, in response to the the lawsuit.

Afterward, he suffered from despair and nervousness, and stayed in his house “as much as possible” as a result of he “feared that the public and/or police would stop, harass, verbally and physically threaten, or arrest him,” the lawsuit says.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office did not instantly return requests for remark.

The video phase went viral following its launch about six years in the past, and Ivey spoke about his recognition throughout a 2017 interview.
“Hardly any place I go speak or I’m at somebody doesn’t say, ‘I watch the Wheel of Fugitive,’” Ivey mentioned on the time. “They see the value of not only trying to get the fugitive off the street but engaging the community in doing so.”
