Peyton Bowen’s commitment to Oregon will final all of about 24 hours it seems.
The five-star security who surprisingly picked the Ducks over Notre Dame and Oklahoma throughout a Signing Day ceremony has backed off that pledge to signal with Oklahoma as a substitute, he introduced on social media on Thursday afternoon.
“As I reflect on yesterday’s whirlwind I recognize that I made some mistakes that I regret and will learn from,” Bowen wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank Coach Lanning, Coach Lupoi and Coach Powledge for offering me the opportunity to join their great program. Soon after choosing Oregon yesterday morning, I came to the realization that the decision was not the best path for me. I immediately started to rethink my future…
“That leads me to Oklahoma. Oklahoma has at all times felt like house to me. Reflecting, it appears as if I used to be at all times searching for a cause to department out and breakaway from house. But my relationships with Coach Venables, Coach Bates, Coach Valai, Coach Hall and Coach Chavis, together with my ties to family and friends domestically led me back to the place I at all times belonged.”
Bowen turned the recruiting world upside down with his surprising decision. A longtime Notre Dame commit, Bowen put an Irish hat atop his head before replacing it with an Oregon cap.
The nation’s No. 14 player in the 247Sports Composite became Oregon’s top-rated commitment. However, as the day wore on Bowen’s signed letter of intent never arrived in Eugene, and word began to circulate that he was reconsidering his choice.
“Oregon and Notre Dame trustworthy, I’m sorry for the way I dealt with this course of,” Bowen also wrote. “Changing my determination on signing day, the hat pump pretend, all of it may have been dealt with higher. I can not change what I did however this expertise is one thing I’ll be taught from.”
Oregon’s class rose to No. 7 nationally with Bowen’s commitment, but has since fallen to No. 11. The Ducks still atop the Pac-12 recruiting rankings well ahead of USC in second.
Two five-stars did sign with the Ducks in wide receiver Jurrion Dickey and defensive finish Matayo Uiagalelei.
