Felon who lured Key deer into home also had guns he wasn’t supposed to, deputies say



BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – A convicted felon accused of luring Key deer into a home, feeding them or even observing Fox News with one in every of them, now has larger issues on his palms, consistent with prison data.

Thomas Geatal Scancarelli, 61, who is on probation for drug convictions, together with cocaine trafficking, is now going through two fees of being a felon in ownership of a firearm.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him at the two criminal counts simply ahead of 5 p.m. on Monday at a home he was once staying at within the 2000 block of Coral Way on Big Pine Key, prison data display.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials first arrested Scancarelli final Tuesday on misdemeanor fees of taking an endangered species and feeding a Key deer through hand.

According to MCSO spokesperson Becky Herrin, FWC officials notified deputies of what seemed to be “two rifles and an AR-15-style weapon mounted on the wall.”

“They said they believed Scancarelli to be a convicted felon who should not have had those weapons in the house where he was staying,” Herrin stated.

She stated government charged him with the 2 felonies “due to his being in control of the firearms for the lengthy period of time he stayed there.”

The home-owner showed that the firearms had been within the place of dwelling and stated “Scancarelli did not have permission to stay in the home and was just supposed to be there painting it,” asking deputies to trespass him and feature the locks modified, Herrin stated.

Scancarelli, all over his time within the home, is accused of taking a couple of footage and movies on Facebook of himself illegally luring Key deer into the home and hand-feeding them.

Aside from a post about observing Fox News with a deer, different posts referenced coaching deer “to perform stupid animal tricks” and having no less than 3 deer in his home directly, which he described as a “furry s— show,” officers stated.

Authorities stated he seemed to be mindful that what he was once doing was once a criminal offense.

The FWC states on its web site that feeding the deer is destructive basically as it “lessens fear of humans.”

“Key deer can be found foraging in yards and on roadsides, where they approach people and slow-moving vehicles for handouts,” the company says. “Getting hit by vehicles is now the primary cause of Key deer mortality. Illegal feeding also causes a concentration of Key deer populations, facilitating the spread of parasites and disease.”

Scancarelli is now being held with out bond in MCSO’s Key West prison facility, on-line data display.
