ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In an effort to safeguard sacred tribal lands, federal authorities introduced a plan Monday to give protection to greater than 4,000 acres (1,619 hectares) throughout the Placitas house in New Mexico’s Sandoval County.
The U.S. Department of the Interior and federal Bureau of Land Management stated a proposed mineral withdrawal would bar new mining claims and oil and gasoline construction in the world for fifty years, matter to legitimate and present rights.
The Pueblos of San Felipe and Santa Ana have lengthy sought protections for the Placitas house, which they believe ancestral and sacred lands.
Authorities stated the federal proposal would lend a hand give protection to, keep and advertise the scenic integrity, cultural significance, leisure values and flora and fauna habitat connectivity throughout the Placitas house close to Albuquerque.
The proposed withdrawal is on 4 separate tracts and comprises recognized archaeological assets that vary from as early because the prehistoric Paleoindian duration throughout the historical Statehood duration and past.
“We’re responding to call from tribes, elected leaders and community members who want to see these public lands protected,” Interior Secretary Deb Haaland stated in a commentary.
