FB’s Reese Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week




Freshman RB exploded for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries

IRVING, Texas – Baylor soccer freshman working again Richard Reese has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, as introduced by the convention on Monday.
 
The rookie had a breakout efficiency in BU’s 42-7 win over Texas State on Saturday, dashing for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, all of which have been profession highs. It was Baylor’s first three-TD dashing effort since Abram Smith did so towards BYU in 2021.
 
Reese helped lead the Bears to a 293-yard output on the floor towards the Bobcats, their highest complete of the 2022 season so far. He additionally caught one cross out of the backfield for a 17-yard reception.
 
After three weeks of play, Reese is now tied for the Big 12 lead with 5 dashing touchdowns, along with rating second in yards per carry (6.97) and fifth in complete dashing yards (237). Among faculty soccer freshmen, he ranks second nationally in dashing TDs (5) and fourth in dashing yards (237).
 
Reese is simply the third Bear all-time to be named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, becoming a member of JaMycal Hasty’s 2016 honor and Jalen Hurd’s most up-to-date 2018 accolade. Baylor has now had a weekly convention award winner in 20 straight seasons, relationship again to 2002.
 
Joining Reese as this week’s Big 12 honorees are Kansas’ Jalon Daniels (Offensive), Oklahoma State’s Trace Ford (Special Teams) and Texas’ Jahdae Barron (Defensive).
