MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Credit card skimming fraud at fuel pumps is so standard that even the U.S. Army fell prey to fraudsters in Miami-Dade County, records show.
A skimmer gave Maikel Fernandez get entry to to a credit card that the government had issued for bills comparable to a U.S. Army automobile in Georgia, in accordance to an arrest warrant.
Fernandez used the stolen credit card numbers to put fuel in his black Toyota Tundra, which were retrofitted with an unlawful tank that allowed him to resell the fuel, in accordance to Special Agent Robert Rudolph’s request for the arrest warrant.
Rudolph reported a skimmer tool at a fuel station in Marietta captured the credit card numbers that Fernandez used at fuel stations in Miami Gardens, records show.
“Each government-owned vehicle is assigned a GSA Wright Express Credit Card,” Rudolph wrote.
Correctional officials booked Fernandez on Thursday and he used to be on the Metrowest Detention Center on Monday in Doral, in accordance to county inmate records. The quantity of the alleged fraud in the case used to be higher than $100.
