Ethiopia’s Abiy Says Government Open to Talks With Tigray Rebels

Abiy’s feedback come days after United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated there was progress in efforts to finish a civil conflict that’s left hundreds of individuals lifeless, displaced hundreds of thousands and broken investor confidence. The African Union and neighboring Kenya have been encouraging each side to negotiate.

On Monday, Ethiopia’s parliament introduced the formation of an 11-member National Dialogue Commission. The panel has been tasked with presenting proposals geared toward ending simmering tensions between the nation’s ethnic and political teams and battle that has destabilized considered one of Africa’s most-populous nations.
