Empty vehicle on tracks derails Chicago-bound Amtrak train in Michigan

Authorities say 11 other people have been injured when an Amtrak train heading to Chicago derailed in southwestern Michigan

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. — An Amtrak train heading to Chicago with 200 passengers derailed after placing an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks in southwestern Michigan, government mentioned Friday.

“The engineer and approximately 10 passengers received non-life threatening injuries and were treated by local ambulance services,” the Berrien County sheriff’s place of work mentioned.

The train derailed however remained upright.

The crash came about Thursday night close to New Buffalo in Michigan’s southwestern nook, about 70 miles (110 kilometers) east of Chicago.

The vehicle used to be caught on the tracks and used to be in the method of being got rid of when the train hit it, the sheriff’s place of work mentioned.

Passengers have been taken to New Buffalo High School. Some have been picked up through friends and family whilst others endured their shuttle to Chicago on buses organized through Amtrak, the sheriff’s place of work mentioned.

Amtrak’s Wolverine direction takes passengers between Chicago and lots of communities in Michigan, together with Detroit. Amtrak canceled some trains Friday whilst investigators remained on the crash scene.
