DFW weather: Homeless shelters opening as colder weather hits

So, with the coldest temperatures of the season arriving within the subsequent few days, two Dallas companies who serve the homeless are banding collectively to guard these weak people from the tough, doubtlessly deadly temperatures.

Austin Street Center, one in all Dallas’ largest emergency and day-service shelters, and OurCalling, a faith-based, daytime outreach middle for the homeless, are collaborating to repurpose Austin Street’s former, now unused facility, to serve as shelter for individuals who want a spot to get out of the chilly.

Austin Street Center opened a brand new 60,000-square-foot facility in June, positioned at 1717 Jeffries Street, to offer protected shelter with a capability to serve practically 500 people each day.

But this unused inclement weather shelter is positioned throughout the road at 2929 Hickory Street, which is ready to assist an extra 360 folks.

According to Austin Street Center officers, the plan is for the unused facility on Hickory Street to open in a single day Thursday, Dec. 22. Shelter company will obtain breakfast, lunch and dinner together with entry to showers, restroom services and protected shelter, officers stated.
