The award, in response to a district press launch, acknowledges educators who’ve made a big and lasting contribution to the music schooling subject, and display a dedication to the broader reason for sustaining music schooling within the colleges. Each yr, one recipient is chosen from 10 finalists and acknowledged for his or her outstanding affect on college students’ lives.

The award is a testomony to the exhausting work, dedication and mentorship Dawson’s supplied through the years, the district stated.

“I believe that the Grammy Foundation did a thorough research of what we’ve provided as far as qualifications to be a finalist,” stated Dawson about her nomination submission this go-around.

“What I spoke about what I pour into my kids, especially this year dealing with mental health, was a deciding factor in me getting this award. I am so honored that the Grammy Museum and The Recording Academy for finding me worthy of receiving this honor.”

Dawson constructed the choir program right into a nationwide powerhouse, the district added, having traveled and gained quite a few competitions all over the world.

The college students have carried out at Carnegie Hall and on the Southwestern American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) nationwide honor choir.

Locally, the district stated, her choirs have been an everyday characteristic for the Dallas Black Dance Theater’s Dance Africa occasion.

Some of her former college students, the district stated, are even on Broadway.

But Dawson has at all times remained humble.

“What I think my students really realize now is that what I’ve been doing has always been for them and not about me,” she stated when requested about her prestigious award.

DeSoto, the district stated in its assertion, is likely one of the top-rated college techniques within the Dallas/Fort Worth space in response to latest Texas Education Agency accountability rankings. The district’s final three graduating lessons have obtained roughly $15M in school scholarships on common — the results of expansive Career and Technical Education, STEM and early childhood teaching programs rooted in creating literacy and numeracy abilities in younger learners.

“DeSoto ISD is proud to acknowledge the work of Pam Dawson in her attainment of this recent achievement,” DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers stated in an announcement.

“Her commitment to excellence and positive impact to students’ lives is demonstrative of what makes this such an amazing school community — the embodiment of the DeSoto difference.”
