CONVERSE – Crews in Converse were operating to amplify a significant street, however one nonprofit stated it’s coming at a price.
The town is operating to amplify Rocket Lane close to Judson High School.
Right alongside the construction direction is the Converse Animal Shelter — a nonprofit, no-kill shelter.

Lezlie Grimes, president of the shelter, stated the group is helping Converse Animal Services.
“We like to pull from them to help their cause to help them become no-kill as well,” she stated.
But Grimes stated with the construction, the town has no longer returned the lend a hand.
“I don’t think they know how much this has impacted us,” she stated. “We’ve had a drop in donations, in adoptions. It’s really hard for people to get out here.”
With concrete barricades and dirt in entrance of the shelter’s front, Grimes stated it’s been difficult for folks to drop off donations.
“We’ve had one donor actually fall and break their leg and had to have surgery due to this construction,” stated Grimes.
Once the paintings is completed, Grimes stated the shelter’s present front, which faces the road, must be moved.
Demolition of the present front is predicted to price round $11,000, Grimes stated, however that may’t be accomplished till construction is whole.
“I’ve tried contacting the city manager several times,’ said Grimes. “I know our volunteers have as well.”
Converse Assistant City Manager Howard Koontz stated he has heard concerning the conflicts the shelter has had with the construction.
