MIAMI – As the tropical storm unleashed rainfall all day round Miami-Dade County, there was a gradual surge of folks driving as much as sites to select up sandbags for free with the intention to shield their houses and residences from any flooding this weekend.
The City of Miami arrange two sites at Grapeland Park at 1550 NW 37 Avenue and at Little Haiti Park at 315 NE 62 Street.
There was a lot demand for sand at Grapeland Park that they ran out of sand by early afternoon and employees at Little Haiti Park anticipated to expire of sand by 4 p.m.
Residents had been allowed to select as much as 10 luggage every.
CBS4’S Peter D’Oench adopted Orlando Pedroso of Miami as he stated he solely wanted 3 luggage of sand to guard his close by house from any flooding.
“Several years we had flooding from a nearby canal that overflowed and caused problems. I hope we have no flooding this time. I want to be prepared,” Pedroso stated.
“I have been living here for 19 years with my husband and we are very concerned about the drainage. We are very concerned as the rain keeps coming down,” Pedroso’s spouse, Kathia Camacho stated.
“Right now we are allowing people to come and get the bags we have filled up. We are trying to help the community and help them any way we can,” Little Haiti Park supervisor Drolin Celestin stated.
Peggy Jimenez drove up and acquired 10 luggage of sand at Grapeland Park.
“Last time during a storm there was water that went into my garage and so I want to protect it by getting 10 bags of sand. I can do that and that is all that counts,” she stated.
Residents stated that they had been following the news and the newest alerts and had been acutely conscious of the harm that may be achieved by as much as 7 inches of rain which was within the forecast.
