City leaders, residents calling on HUD to fix deplorable conditions at Opa-locka apartment complex


OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – From black mildew to vermin, the residents of an apartment complex in Opa-locka stated they’ve been pressured to reside with a plethora of unlivable issues for years.

On Wednesday, City leaders held a news convention after residents at the Glorieta Gardens residences, positioned within the 1300 block of Alexandra Drive, have been reportedly dwelling in deplorable conditions.

The complex has round 250 residences and residents informed Local 10 News that they’re coping with an infestation of roaches, rats, or even snakes.

Opa-locka City Manager Darvin Williams described one apartment that had feces and uncooked sewage effervescent up within the kitchen sink.

Williams stated control has modified a number of occasions, including that the complex is non-public assets and underneath contract with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, which is federally funded.
