Charlie Crist “extremely humbled” after winning Democratic primary for governor


ST. PETERSBURG – A day after winning the Democratic primary for governor, Charlie Crist spoke to CBS4 reporter Joan Murray concerning the challenges forward attempting to defeat Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“I’m overwhelmed and extremely humbled by it,” Crist stated about his victory.

With DeSantis having fun with excessive approval scores and a $140-million conflict chest constructed up for campaigning, consultants say he will probably be robust to beat within the November election.

“His approval rating is 50%. When I was governor from 2007 to 2011, my approval rating was 72% and that was during the Great Recession,” stated Crist.

He says he realized so much from his failed bid for governor towards Rick Scott in 2014.  It was a slim win, very contentious and costly.

“I learned spend more time in North Florida,” he stated.

Because he has modified from being a Republican to Independent after which a Democrat, some voters nonetheless consult with him as a “flip flopper.”

“It doesn’t bother me at all,” he stated. “I am what I am and have always been the same person.  I still have the same values.”

Crist has been a Democrat for 10 years.  He is finishing a 3rd time period as a U.S. congressman from St. Petersburg.

He says his previous expertise as a Florida state senator make him able to work with a Republican dominated legislature.

He says if elected, a prime precedence will probably be to signal an govt order defending a girl’s proper to decide on. He may even focus on schooling, the atmosphere and voting rights.
