POLK COUNTY, Fla. — All eyes have been on the Polk County School Board race, as a lot of the seats have been up for grabs.
In District 3, Rick Nolte led in votes in opposition to incumbent Sarah Fortney. He earned almost 51% of the vote in unofficial outcomes from the Polk County Supervisor of Elections.
Kay Fields remained the longest serving School Board member, profitable a sixth time period in District 5. In the one race for an open seat, Justin Sharpless defeated Sara Jones for the District 6 seat.
And in District 7, incumbent Lisa Miller will face Jill Sessions in November for a runoff.

Among the objectives candidates have set are boosting salaries for veteran academics, workforce improvement, college security, recruiting workers and scholar achievement.
“I like the phonics system. Let’s get these kids to be able to read,” Lakeland voter Bonnie Bush mentioned.
One voter mentioned he was in search of School Board members that may problem e-book bans.
“We don’t need to see School Board members who need to ban books, easy as that,” President of Polk County Voters League Randy Barnes said. “It’s the mother or father’s obligation to say I don’t need my children to learn these books.”
Last 12 months, a neighborhood political group accused Polk County Public Schools of getting pornographic books at school libraries. This prompted the district to create panels to evaluate 16 books.
All the titles have been allowed to stay on library cabinets however now require dad and mom to opt-out of books they don’t need their college students to learn.
