Burbank High School librarian wins her division at Scrabble Players Championship in Las Vegas



SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Scrabble fanatic not too long ago gained her division whilst competing at the nationwide stage for the board sport this summer season.

From simply being to then a scrabble champ, Jennifer De Waelsche, the librarian at Burbank High School, gained first position in Division Four at the Scrabble Players Championship in Las Vegas.

My mother appreciated Scrabble and my aunt, they have been each wordsmiths,” De Waelsche, a Scrabble Champion stated.

“They loved it, and that got me interested.”

It was once her husband that were given her into taking part in competitively, and it’s if truth be told how they met.

“We played our first game on our second date, and I beat him,” De Waelsche stated.

So technically, it was once phrases at first sight.

“But he knew that I was a player, so I got his attention,” she stated.

De Waelsche stated her aggressive profession began out like a bag of jumbled letters, her first event in 2012 was once a scorching mess.

“I lost every game and I wasn’t sure if I was cut out for it because I was pretty competitive, and I didn’t like losing that much,” De Waelsche stated. “But by my third tournament, I actually came in second and won like $25 at that tournament.”

She stated she started educating Scrabble at her then heart college as an after college membership, that helped her transform the queen of diction.

The perfect scoring phrase that she has ever performed? “enquired” for 203 issues as a triple triple.

And the phrase that helped her win at nationals?

“Stocker—S-T-O-C-K-E-R,” De Waelsche stated.

At the championship, De Waelsche went on a successful streak, successful 14 video games in a row and stated that exact phrase helped her comeback in a fit that she idea she would needless to say lose.

“I was losing by over 100 points in the middle of the game and I was almost giving up,” De Waelsche stated.

“But I drew the blank, which was very helpful. I got a bingo down and then had the blank drew the “E” that I wanted and I used to be ready to position the phrase stocker down.”
