Broward teacher facing long odds to buy first home despite Hometown Heroes program


FORT LAUDERDALE – First-time homebuyers in a service job, like police officer, firefighter or teacher, are eligible to apply for a brand new Florida program that helps with upfront prices.

The Hometown Heroes program was unveiled by Gov. Ron DeSantis final week and it is producing loads of buzz.

Broward particular training teacher Wendy Samuels is hoping she is permitted. Like so many South Florida academics, she is desperately trying to buy a home.

“I’m a single mom with two daughters, so I need a home for us and I also want to leave behind a legacy for them,” she stated.

The program supplies up to $25,000 in down funds and shutting prices. But you have to have a minimal 640 credit score rating to qualify.

“We are getting 10 to 15 calls a day right now,” stated mortgage officer David Sheir with motion mortgage in Davie.
