Australia Women captain Meg Lanning, who lately led her crew to the Gold medal within the Commonwealth Games 2022, has determined to take an indefinite break from the sport citing private causes, Cricket Australia (CA) introduced in an announcement on Wednesday.
Lanning has determined to step again from the sport after a busy two-and-a-half-year interval during which she led the Aussies to the T20I and ODI World Cups titles and the house Ashes collection triumph.
Lanning’s resolution to take a break from cricket, with no mounted date for her return, comes with the complete assist of the Australian apex board.
“We’re proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time,” stated CA’s head of efficiency of girls’s cricket, Shawn Flegler, as quoted by Cricketcomau.
“She’s been an incredible contributor to Australian cricket over the last decade, achieving remarkable feats both individually and as part of the team, and has been a brilliant role model for young kids. The welfare of our players is always our number one priority, and we’ll continue to work with Meg to ensure she gets the support and space she needs,” Flegler added.
Lanning, who’s legend in ladies’s cricket and at the moment ranked 2nd in T20I rankings and fifth in ODIs, stated she needed to spend extra time specializing in herself and is eternally grateful to her teammates and CA for the unconditional assist.
“After a busy couple of years, I’ve made the decision to take a step back to enable me to spend time focusing on myself. I’m grateful for the support of CA and my teammates and ask that my privacy is respected during this time,” stated Lanning.
The Singapore-born Aussie cricketer has performed 6 Tests, 100 ODIs, and 124 T20Is, during which she has scored 345, 4463, and 3211 runs, respectively, with a complete of 17 centuries.
