Attorneys Ask For Delay In Parkland Shooter Sentencing Trial


Fort Lauderdale (CBS MIAMI) – Defense attorneys for convicted Parkland college shooter Nikolas Cruz are asking a decide to delay his sentencing trial resulting from current mass shootings. 

In its submitting, attorneys cite the May twenty fourth capturing at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas as one of many causes for his or her movement, saying “The devastation resulting from the Uvalde shooting has opened old wounds for the Broward County community and has heightened anxiety for Broward students and parents.  It has also fueled gun control advocates, still reeling from the death of 10 people in a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York on May 14, 2022.”

The sentencing trial resumed Monday earlier than Judge Elizabeth Scherer, with the protection workforce asking to solely proceed with hardship questions. One of the college shooter’s attorneys is in quarantine and is just one of two who has ever tried a dying penalty case.

Jury choice is predicted to take a number of extra weeks.

Cruz pleaded responsible to 17 counts of homicide and 17 counts of tried homicide for the mass capturing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018.
