Atatiana Jefferson: Jury hears closing arguments in Dean trial



Over the course of 5 days, the jury has heard from a number of witnesses and consultants, together with Jefferson’s now 11-year-old nephew Zion Carr.

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — A Tarrant County jury is ready to listen to closing arguments in the homicide trial for former Fort Worth officer Aaron Dean in the 2019 taking pictures dying of Atatiana Jefferson.

Dean shot and killed Jefferson in the early morning hours on Oct. 12, 2019, after he and his associate responded to a non-emergency name to Jefferson’s dwelling. 

Much of what occurred was captured on physique digital camera footage.

Over the course of 5 days, the jury has heard from a number of witnesses and consultants, together with Jefferson’s now 11-year-old nephew Zion Carr, who was with Jefferson the evening she was killed, Dean’s former associate Carol Darch, and the one that initiated the decision, former 911 name taker Abriel Talbert.

In a stunning transfer, Dean took the stand on day 4 of his homicide trial.  

Dean stated, as he stood in the again of the house, he noticed a silhouette low in the window of Jefferson’s home. He stated he may solely see the higher arms of the physique, and he believed there was motion.

“Well, I thought we had a burglar, so I stepped back straightened up and drew my weapon,” Dean testified. “I couldn’t see the hands. So, I drew my weapon intending to tell that person to show me their hands.”

Dean was visibly shaken when he began to testify about what occurred subsequent. 

“I started getting that second command out, I saw the barrel of the gun, and when I saw that gun pointing at me… I shot a single shot from my service weapon,” he advised the jury. 

Prosecutor Dale Smith hammered Dean over the errors allegedly made in responding to the decision at Jefferson’s dwelling, particularly driving dwelling the truth that he didn’t see the arms of the ‘silhouette’ in the window nor determine to his associate there was a gun, or instantly begin CPR on Jefferson.

Throughout the trial, the protection tried to give attention to Jefferson’s gun, regularly making an attempt to persuade the jury that Dean may’ve seen it and that he was justified in killing her.  

The prosecution argued he shouldn’t have been there in any respect and Jefferson was reacting usually.
