Armed Texas Man Says Cops Stopped Him From Confronting Shooter Outside School


A Texas funeral employee who was one of many first folks to return face-to-face with a gunman at Robb Elementary School final month stated he instantly armed himself to cease the shooter however was stopped by police, leaving him feeling responsible that he couldn’t do extra.

Cody Briseno stated he was working at a funeral house close to the Uvalde college when he noticed capturing suspect Salvador Ramos crash his pickup truck in a close-by ditch and emerge from the car with an “evil look” on his face, he instructed NBC News in an interview that aired Sunday.

“We locked eyes and he gave me this vibe. I told him, are you OK? Me thinking he was dazed out,” he stated of that May 24 encounter.

Briseno stated the 18-year-old then turned and went into his car the place he retrieved a rifle. As the teenager began to load the firearm, Briseno yelled at a coworker who had joined him exterior to run. Both of them safely escaped the spray of gunfire that was fired at them, he stated, permitting Briseno to retrieve his personal gun from his spouse and cost after the shooter. That’s when a police officer stopped him.

Law enforcement have been criticized over their delayed efforts to confront and cease the shooter. Parents of youngsters on the college have stated law enforcement officials pressured them to attend powerlessly exterior the college because the gunman carried out his rampage inside.

One native mom, who was handcuffed and practically arrested after unsuccessfully imploring legislation enforcement to take motion, stated she managed to leap a fence and run inside the college for her two sons after being uncuffed.

“There was not one single officer inside the school when I arrived at my second son’s classroom,” Angela Gomez instructed CBS News final week of her expertise inside. “You could hear the gunshots, it was still active.”

Gomez stated when she did lastly see first responders inside, she instructed them to present her a protecting vest so she might assist evacuate youngsters herself.

“They could have saved many more lives. They could have gone into that classroom and maybe two or three would have been gone but they could have saved … more,” she stated whereas combating again tears.
