Anonymous donor clears student debt of Wiley College graduates in Texas


MARSHALL, Texas — Students graduating from a traditionally Black faculty in East Texas had been instructed at their graduation ceremony that an nameless donor had paid their balances, officers stated.

Wiley College stated in a news launch that over 100 college students had been gathered for commencement Saturday when the varsity’s president made the announcement.

“We are constantly communicating with donors to assist students in these ways so that they can begin their after-college experience with less debt,” Herman J. Felton Jr., Wiley’s president and CEO, stated in the news launch.

The faculty stated in the news launch that the estimated complete for the balances owed to the school by the graduating class of 2022 was about $300,000.

The 2007 film “The Great Debaters” starring Denzel Washington was impressed by the 1935 debate in which Wiley prevailed over the University of Southern California’s nationally-known, powerhouse workforce at a time when the nation was closely segregated.
