All-MAC offensive lineman Caleb Shaffer announces transfer to Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners’ news is doubly nice on this early January night. All-MAC offensive lineman Caleb Shaffer introduced he is transferring to Oklahoma to come defend quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who introduced his return earlier Thursday.

“The people and the culture they’ve built here is what stood out to me the most,” Shaffer told OUInsider.com’s Brandon Drumm. “Coach [Brent] Venables has a huge vision for this program, and everyone in the program believes in that vision as well. Super excited to work hard, build relationships here and win a ton of football games.“

Shaffer took a visit to Oklahoma this week, and simply found his perfect fit.

“I’m loving it man, I love everything about this place,” Shaffer mentioned whereas on the go to. “I’m a big fan of the people here, real down to earth and genuine, and I love how their culture is reflected in the way they do things as well, on the football, school and community side.”

The second Shaffer hit the transfer portal, there was some immediate behind-the-scenes buzz that the Sooners had sturdy curiosity within the Second Team All-MAC O-lineman for Miami (OH). And that is rightly so, given his breadth of expertise and the necessity to substitute the likes of Robert Congel and Chris Murray. Shaffer has started 35 games over four seasons for the Redhawks and potentially has as much as two years remaining, given the extra year afforded by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He joins First Team Freshman All-American linebacker Dasan McCullough, reuniting tight finish Austin Stogner, security Reggie Pearson, defensive lineman Jacob Lacey, defensive lineman Trace Ford and punter Luke Elzinga as additions from the transfer portal. Those seven, an amazing 2023 class and the returning group from the 2022 squad will look to present main enchancment on this simply accomplished 6-7 season subsequent 12 months, because the Sooners suffered their first shedding season for the reason that 1990’s final week.
