Protesters took to the streets in Austin and throughout Texas this week after a leaked draft opinion obtained by Politico indicated that the U.S. Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade, successfully ending all constitutional protections for abortions.
Texas already has essentially the most restrictive abortion regulation in the nation underneath a novel civil enforcement mechanism that bans the process after about six weeks of being pregnant.
Despite this restriction, abortion stays authorized in Texas, but when the Court overturns Roe v. Wade, a so-called set off regulation handed by the Legislature in 2021 that bans virtually all abortions would go into impact 30 days later. The courtroom’s remaining ruling is predicted this summer time.
