I’m making a little idea to be shared in entrance of my residence in a neighborhood shut to downtown Houston. It’s only a easy concept, however I hope it’s going to take root.
Inspired by the idea of the Little Free Library — an initiative that promotes free public ebook exchanges — I’ve put collectively a plan for a little free newsstand in entrance of my residence known as “Mother Nature News.”
I’ll use an upcycled newsstand bought on Etsy from Impact Racks, a retailer that specializes in refurbished news tools, and fill it with supplies from the Catholic Climate Covenant, Take Care of Texas and books about local weather change that encourage and encourage me, similar to The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times by Jane Goodall and Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World by Katharine Hayhoe.
I’ve utilized for funding by means of two small grant applications — Roots and Shoots and Victory Noll — to assist with the price of the newsstand and the books.
The concept for “Mother Nature News” popped into my head when development site visitors and air pollution from autos driving by means of my neighborhood grew to become insufferable. My residence is almost 100 years previous and I watch in dismay whereas properties related in age to mine are destroyed by builders and builders. While I really feel as if I’m a quiet voice in a loud world (oil and gasoline cash is all over the place in Houston), I hope this little concept shall be a beacon of sunshine that lets passersby know there’s somebody right here who cares.
