38 women accuse James Toback of sexual misconduct in lawsuit

NEW YORK (AP) — More than three dozen women have filed a lawsuit in New York towards author and director James Toback, accusing him of sexual abuse.

The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan on Monday, comes after New York state final month instituted a one-year window for folks to file lawsuits over sexual assault claims even when they befell a long time in the past, waiving statutes of limitations.

Accusations that Toback had engaged in sexual abuse going again years surfaced in late 2017, first reported by the Los Angeles Times because the #MeToo motion gained consideration.

In 2018, Los Angeles prosecutors mentioned the statutes of limitations had expired in 5 circumstances they reviewed, and so they declined to convey felony costs towards Toback.

Information on attorneys or representatives for Toback was not accessible; he has denied the allegations made towards him.

Fifteen of the women are named as plaintiffs in the New York go well with, whereas one other 23 are listed as (*38*) Does; in addition to Toback, the Harvard Club of New York City can also be listed as a defendant, with some of the women saying they had been abused there.

Toback was nominated for an Oscar for writing 1991′s “Bugsy,” and his profession in Hollywood has spanned greater than 40 years.
