The Minnesota Twins have punched their price ticket to the American League Division Series. The Twins finished the two-game Wild Card Series sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays at Target Field on Wednesday afternoon (MIN 2, TOR 0) and can now take on the Houston Astros in the ALDS. It will probably be Carlos Correa towards his former group. That sequence starts Saturday at Minute Maid Park.
Minnesota snapped their file 18-game postseason shedding streak in Game 1 on Tuesday and now they’ve their first postseason sequence win since beating the Oakland Athletics in the 2002 ALDS. Correa (unmarried) and Willi Castro (RBI double play) equipped Game 2’s lone runs in the fourth inning, after Blue Jays supervisor John Schneider changed starter José Berríos with Yusei Kikuchi
Twins pitchers utterly ruled the Blue Jays in the two-game sweep. Gone are the times of Minnesota taking a roster filled with pitch-to-contact soft-tossers into the postseason. Their group of workers is now loaded with energy and spin, and so they held Toronto to one run in the Wild Card Series sweep. And, every time Toronto started to piece in combination a rally, the Twins appeared to make the entire performs defensively.
Perhaps essentially the most memorable play of the sequence happened in the 5th inning. The Blue Jays had runners on 2d and 3rd with two outs and Bo Bichette — their ultimate hitter — on the plate. Sonny Gray then picked Vladimir Guerrero Jr. off 2d to finish the risk. An inning later, Matt Chapman banged into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded.
The Blue Jays have now misplaced seven consecutive postseason video games courting again to Game 4 of the 2016 ALCS. That is tied with the Tampa Bay Rays, who had been eradicated previous in the day Tuesday, for the longest energetic postseason shedding streak in baseball. Toronto is 0-6 in the postseason right through the Bichette/Vlad Jr. generation.
With the Twins and Texas Rangers advancing Tuesday, the ALDS matchups set. The Twins are going to Houston and the Rangers are going to Baltimore to play the Orioles. The Division Series is a best-of-five.
