2 Donna’s Caribbean Restaurants ordered shut; another restaurant ordered to keep ‘cat’ out of kitchen



Below is a listing of puts ordered close remaining week via inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Two separate Donna’s Caribbean Restaurants had been ordered close.

According to data, the positioning in Miami Gardens had a roach factor and the positioning in Lauderhill had a rodent factor.

Y&C Restaurant, in the meantime, was once order to keep a cat out of the kitchen.

All the puts discussed had been allowed to re-open following an ordered cleanup and re-inspection.

13 VIOLATIONS FOUND

“Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed 2 live roaches under the stove in the kitchen, 3 live roaches behind the reach in cooler outlet, 10+ live roaches under the 3 compartment sink.”

“Nonfood-contact surface soiled with grease, food debris, dirt, slime or dust. Observed hood filters soiled in the kitchen.”

“Worn, torn and/or soiled floors/carpeting. Observed under the 3 compartment sink and stoves soiled. Observed walk in cooler floor soiled.”

“Raw animal foods not properly separated from one another based upon minimum required cooking temperature when stored in a freezer – not all products commercially packaged. Observed raw chicken over raw goat inside the reach in freezer.”

“Proof of required state approved employee training not available for some employees.”

“From follow-up inspection 2023-12-05: At the time of the callback inspection, observed 1 live roach under the 3 compartment sink. Observed 4 dead roaches under the dry storage area by the mop sink, 2 dead roaches under the 3 compartment sink, and 6 dead roaches under the stove and 2 by the front counter hand washing sink.”

“Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed in lounge dining area, 1) 14 dropping along wall under bar area. 2) 6 droppings on shelves behind bar among liquor bottles and glassware. 3) 7 droppings on floor around booths in lounge dining room closest to exit door. 4) 5 on droppings on floor around buffet area in lounge. 5) droppings too numerous to count under shelving unit in far back stock room behind walk-in cooler where beverages are kept. 6) 9 droppings along wall in dish room.”

“Sewage/wastewater backing up through floor drains. Water backing up from floor drains under reach in cooler in kitchen and in front of hand sink at front of kitchen. Observed employees walking through grey water and tracking around kitchen area.”

“Ceiling/ceiling tiles/vents soiled with accumulated food debris, grease, dust, or mold-like substance. Ceiling tiles in front dining area discolored and show dust and mold like buildup. Repeat Violation.”

“Floor not cleaned when the least amount of food is exposed. Multiple areas of floor in kitchen, lounge dining room, and dish room areas have buildup of food debris along edges of wall.”

“Employee failed to wash hands before putting on gloves to initiate a task working with food items. 1) Employee washing dishes and proceeded to move into kitchen area to assist without washing hands before putting on gloves. 2) Employee left kitchen area with container of raw chicken and returned and put on gloves without first washing hands.”

“Stop Sale issued on time/temperature control for safety food due to temperature abuse. 1) In kitchen reach in, HOBART – marinated chicken (46F – Cold Holding); cooked kidney (45F – Cold Holding); whole raw chicken (48F – Cold Holding). Per employee in unit more than 4 hrs. – in unit overnight. 2) In walk in cooler, raw marinated chicken (49-55F – Cold Holding); raw marinated oxtail (48F – Cold Holding). Per employee, thawed overnight in cooler, marinated in morning and replaced in cooler. No temperature change observed during inspection for cooling.”

“Hand wash sink not accessible for employee use at all times. Soap dispenser container in hand sink beside triple sink. Employee removed dispenser.”

“Ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared onsite and held more than 24 hours not properly date marked. Observed in walk in cooler containers of raw chicken thawed more than 24 hrs. missing date marking. Repeat Violation.”

“Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed at the front counter: approximately 15+ rodent droppings on the lower shelves, then approximately 6 rodent droppings underneath the fish tank, 4 rodent droppings inside a bucket underneath the large fish tank, kitchen area: 5 rodent droppings on the floor underneath the shelves with the packets of sauces, 4 rodent droppings in between both reach in coolers, 1 rodent dropping on the floor up in front of the walk in freezer, approximately 15 rodent droppings underneath the dishwasher, dry storage area: approximately 20+ rodent droppings on the floor underneath containers with rice and flour, 3 rodent droppings on the floor underneath the electrical box, 4 rodent droppings on the floors by the entrance to the dry storage room, Women restroom: 2 rodent droppings on the floor inside the handicap stall and 1 rodent dropping on the floor underneath the hand washing sink and men’s restroom: 1 rodent dropping on the floor by the hand washing sink. Repeat Violation.”

“Objectionable odors in bathroom or other areas of the establishment. By the fish tank, by the kitchen exit door, inside the kitchen and in the the dining area.”

“Food stored on floor. Observed chili paste stored on the floor in the kitchen, bags of onions and carrots in the walk in cooler and bucket of soy sauce in the dry storage area. Repeat Violation.”

“Plumbing system improperly installed or repaired. Observed murky water from the fish tank with foul odor draining into a dirty container.”

“Water draining onto floor surface. Observed a pipe draining water from the refrigeration unit through the wall of the walk in freezer into a bucket by the hand washing sink. Repeat Violation.”

“Wall soiled with accumulated grease, food debris, and/or dust. By the dish washer machine.”

“Cooked/heated time/temperature control for safety food not cooled from 135 degrees Fahrenheit to 41 degrees Fahrenheit within 6 hours. Observed cooked chicken (56F – Cooling) in the reach in cooler stored overnight. Operator discarded items.”

“Food-contact surface soiled with food debris, mold-like substance or slime. Observed can opener soiled in the kitchen.”

Two rodent droppings on floor of customer waiting area. Over ten rodent droppings on food storage rack opposite cook line in the kitchen.”

“No dishwashing facilities of any kind provided. Observed only three compartment sink available which has no running water.”

“Raw animal food stored over/not properly separated from ready-to-eat food. Low boy Observed raw salmon stored over cooked eggs.”
