2 children dead, baby critical after attempted border crossings


Two children are useless and a baby is in critical situation after being pulled from the Rio Grande River throughout separate makes an attempt to cross into the United States from Mexico on Monday, officers stated.

A 3-year-old boy died and a 2-month-old baby was taken to hospital in critical situation after they have been pulled from the Rio Grande River Monday afternoon, Eagle Pass Fire Department Chief Manuel Mello stated in a press release.

Mello stated the children have been being “brought across” the river as a part of a gaggle of migrants when the incident unfolded. It occurred at round 1 p.m. native time (2 p.m. ET) on Monday, in response to WOAI-TV, an NBC affiliate based mostly in San Antonio.

Mello stated Border Patrol brokers have been shut by when the incident unfolded and assisted with the rescue. By the time fireplace rescue arrived on the scene, CPR was already being administered by brokers, Mello stated.

The 3-year-old boy was pronounced useless on the scene, whereas the baby boy was transferred to a San Antonio hospital, Mello stated.

Mexico’s National Immigration Institute stated a 5-year-old woman additionally drowned whereas trying to cross the Rio Grande to enter Texas on Monday.

The tragic incidents come amid a current decline in arrests of undocumented migrants crossing the U.S. southern border after reaching an all-time excessive in May.
