17-year-old gunman allegedly kills 3 teens, injures 1 over ‘stupid’ fight: Sheriff

A 17-year-old allegedly shot 4 different youngsters — ages 14 to 17 — killing 3 of them, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott stated at a news convention Monday.

Sunday afternoon’s capturing it appears stemmed from a prior dispute. Lott known as it a combat “over something stupid” from a pair years in the past.

The 17-year-old suspect has been arrested on fees together with 3 counts of homicide and one depend of tried homicide, the sheriff stated.

“Three kids are dead,” Lott stated. “If that doesn’t shock you, then something’s wrong. So we gotta do something. … Now is time for action.”

“Here we are once again,” Richland County Councilwoman Gretchen Barron stated.

“Young people got guns and they make poor choices. Now it’s left up to us as a community,” she stated.

“I stand here as a mom of two African American boys. And it’s very deliberate how we raise them,” she stated. “Because I don’t want them to end up like that.”

The sheriff didn’t say the place the gun used on this capturing was once received, however he stated native youngsters are stealing weapons from vehicles. He stated 100 vehicles have been damaged into this weekend.

Additional safety is on campus Monday at Columbia’s Eau Claire High School, the place the 3 slain youngsters and the suspect have been scholars, in keeping with the sheriff and the superintendent.

“The Richland One family is grieving the loss of three young lives to senseless gun violence,” Superintendent Craig Witherspoon stated in a remark. “This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we ask everyone to keep the students’ families and the students and staff at Eau Claire High School in your thoughts and prayers.”
