1 dead, 2 hurt after shooting outside Orlando high school football game

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 19-year-old has died, and two others are hurt after a shooting in the parking lot of Jones High School during a football game Saturday night, police say. 

The Orlando Police Department said its officers were working extra duty for the Jones High vs. Wekiva High football game when they heard the shots fired from the parking lot around 8:30 p.m. When they arrived in the area, they found two people who had been shot. 

At 10:30 p.m., police learned an additional shooting victim drove themselves to a local hospital. That person is expected to be OK. 

Police believe the gunshots rang out during the game after a possible argument between two groups. Four juvenile suspects have been detained, including one who was found with a gun in their possession. 

“We believe we have a possible suspect in custody. At the time, we do not know their affiliation to either of the schools. This is an ongoing investigation,” OPD said in a statement. Police said there are no threats to the public right now.

Orange County Public Schools provided the following statement regarding the incident: “We are extremely saddened by the tragic event that occurred Saturday evening during the Jones and Wekiva football game. This is an ongoing police investigation and we are working closely with OPD to help bring resolution. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted.”
