AUSTIN (Nexstar) — The race for lieutenant governor is without doubt one of the high races we’re watching within the November 2022 election.
Dan Patrick and Mike Collier are working towards one another for the second time.
We’ve seen their political advertisements throughout TV for weeks now. But who’re these two candidates? This issues, as a result of whoever wins could have an enormous affect over Texas’ legislative insurance policies, and outlining the state’s finances.
It’s a rematch of the carefully contested 2018 election. Collier—the Democratic candidate—misplaced to Republican incumbent Patrick by simply 5 factors.
Collier has campaigned virtually nonstop for the final three years, specializing in public schooling, fixing the facility grid, and prison justice reform.
“As I drive around the state and talk to people, are we better off than we were four years ago or eight years ago with Dan Patrick, as Lt. Governor? The answer is absolutely no,” Collier mentioned. “We have a grid that doesn’t work…property taxes that are exploding, public education that’s underfunded. 65-70 percent of teachers are thinking about doing something else.”
Patrick has run most of his marketing campaign on property tax aid, securing the border, giving dad and mom a selection of their youngsters’ schooling and elevating trainer pay.
“Under my leadership, we have put more money into public education than any lieutenant governor in history,” Patrick mentioned. “The other side does not line up with the values of West Texas, Central Texas and rural Texas.”
Both are assured of their capacity to win.
