UT pauses new diversity, equity and inclusion policies


AUSTIN (KXAN) – The University of Texas Austin has put a pause on new variety, equity and inclusion policies. This comes after Governor Greg Abbott warned public universities that utilizing DEI initiatives when hiring was unlawful.

The announcement got here Wednesday on the UT System’s Board of Regents assembly. The subject was not on the agenda, nor was it a dialogue merchandise.

KXAN spoke with UT college students who stated they have been disheartened by the news.

“I think that all students here at UT really value diversity, equity and inclusion… and I think that in recent years, have been really pushing for that on campus. So it’s odd to think that there’s been a pause,” stated UT pupil Kiki Wallace.

Students like Ze Khan stated it’s higher to have extra variety than to restrict it.

“UT Austin is very diverse and I’d like to keep it that way,” Khan stated.

The UT Austin Board of Regents additionally requested every campus for a report of its DEI policies to provide them a possibility to look over the varied policies systemwide.
