Off-duty Florida officer kills gunman outside Publix in videotaped shooting


HOMESTEAD, Fla. – An off-duty police officer fatally shot a gunman throughout a confrontation outside a South Florida grocery store Saturday evening in an encounter captured on video.

Cellphone movies posted on Twitter confirmed the person in the car parking zone outside a Publix grocery store in Homestead holding a gun and firing four shots into an SUV that he says is his. Holding the gun in entrance of him, he instructed consumers in the car parking zone, “Go home, go home.”

A Homestead police officer confronted him, pointing his gun at him whereas taking cowl about 30 ft (10 meters) away. The man tried to open the SUV’s door after which fired two extra photographs into it. He then pulled keys from his pocket and tried once more to open the door.

“I am going home,” the person yelled on the officer.

“Put the gun down, sir!” the officer yelled.

“You can’t hit me from here,” the person replied. “I am not trying to hurt anybody.”

Seconds later, one other voice commanded the person to place down the gun. He turned towards it, his gun nonetheless in his hand. One shot was fired, hitting him. He fell on his again. The man who fired the shot, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, got here into view, yelling towards the Homestead officer, “I’m a cop, Miami-Dade! Get fire-rescue!”

The Homestead officer approached, his gun pointing on the off-duty officer. The Miami-Dade officer identified the place the fallen man’s gun landed, a number of ft away.
