OCPD Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting With Armed Man Near Downtown

A person was despatched to a neighborhood hospital on Thursday following an officer-involved taking pictures close to downtown Oklahoma City. The suspect was accused of pointing a gun at somebody and threatening officers. 

Police stated a frightened citizen flagged down an officer after witnessing the suspect level a gun at them close to Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The name round 10 a.m. prompted a big police presence. 

Officers confronted the armed man close to the car parking zone of the Hispanic American mission constructing on the nook of northwest third road and Pennsylvania Avenue. They first tried to de-escalate the scenario by speaking to the suspect.

“We did have one officer with a less-lethal who was able to use the less-lethal that did strike the suspect,” stated Capt. Valerie Littlejohn, Oklahoma City Police Department. “When he was struck by the less-lethal round he immediately made a threatening movement.”   

When the beanbag shotgun didn’t work, police stated 4 officers fired on the man close to parked vehicles. Their bullets hit the suspect and shattered automobile home windows, turning the car parking zone into against the law scene.

“Officers rendered aid at the scene,” stated Littlejohn. “He was transported to an area hospital with a non-life threatening injury.”

Police haven’t launched the suspect’s identify or why he was allegedly pointing a gun at individuals. Officers did detain a number of individuals for witness statements.

“We obviously want to talk to and get everyone’s story on what they saw or heard,” stated Littlejohn. “That way we can have all the information needed to do the investigation.”

The 4 officers have been positioned on routine depart. They will keep on depart all through the investigation.
