Nicole makes landfall in Florida as a Category 1 hurricane


With Nicole now trekking over Florida as a weakening tropical storm, all hurricane warnings have been discontinued, in line with the National Hurricane Center.

All warnings for the northwestern Bahamas have been discontinued as the system strikes west.

The storm surge warning from North Palm Beach to Jupiter Inlet has additionally been canceled, and so has the storm surge watch south of North Palm Beach to Hallandale Beach. However, different elements of Florida and the Southeast are below storm surge warnings or watches.

Nicole now has barely weaker winds of 70 mph — down from 75 mph during landfall — with greater gusts as it continues shifting west-northwest at 14 mph.

“Nicole remains a large tropical storm,” the National Hurricane Center mentioned. “Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 450 miles from the center, especially to the north.”

Winds are growing close to the west coast of Florida. A sustained wind of 38 mph and a gust to 45 mph have been reported at Clearwater Beach, close to metro Tampa-St.Petersburg.

  • Altamaha Sound, Georgia to South Santee River, South Carolina
