New York saw steepest population decline in the last year

New York continues to guide the nation in population loss and outmigration, in line with information launched Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. 

The Empire State saw the largest annual numeric and p.c decline in its population between July 2021 and July 2022, dropping by 180,341 individuals. Overall, that is a 0.9% lower in individuals dwelling in New York, the bureau reported.

Net home migration accounted for a lot of the decline in the state’s population, with New York shedding 299,557 to different states. 

New York in the last two years has seen a pointy drop in its population, shedding greater than 400,000 individuals throughout that point. 

The state has for generations struggled to retain residents to different states, a development that worries the enterprise neighborhood.

Population decline can have political ramifications, too. The state is ready to lose a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after New York’s population didn’t develop as quick as many different states.
