Homeless shelters opening as OK prepares for bitter cold

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – As Oklahomans put together for dangerously low temperatures later this week, specialists are involved in regards to the homeless inhabitants.

Officials with the Homeless Alliance say they are going to be opening the day shelter as an emergency short-term night time shelter starting on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The day shelter will stay open 24 hours a day via Sunday. Organizers say all folks and pets are welcome, and no ID is required.

“Winter overflow beds will also be available overnight at The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command, City Care, and City Rescue Mission. Transportation will be provided between the shelters in the morning and evening at no cost by Embark,” the Homeless Alliance instructed KFOR in an e mail.

Early Thursday morning, meteorologists expect arctic air to maneuver into the Sooner State.

Temperatures are anticipated to drop dramatically with highs within the single-digits, and wind chills within the unfavorable.

The Homeless Alliance is asking for donations for the next objects:

  • Adult-sized tennis sneakers and work boots
  • Warm coats (males’s giant and up)
  • Gloves and beanies (impartial colours most popular)
  • Hand and physique heaters
  • Blankets and sleeping baggage
  • Men’s denims and adult-sized hoodies
  • Adult sized underwear (new solely,) lengthy underwear, and bras.

Donations may be delivered to the campus on the nook of N.W. third and Virginia between 9 a.m. and three:30 p.m., Monday via Thursday.
