Florida man, New Hampshire woman arrested after crashing stolen car

A Florida man and a New Hampshire woman had been arrested this weekend after they crashed their stolen car on Route 95 in Rhode Island.

The car crashed simply north of the Connecticut State line in Hopkinton round 11 a.m. on Friday. Police say 32-year-old Kelvin Lewis and 23-year-old Melanie Diperna had been contained in the stolen car when it crashed.

After that crash, police say Lewis tried to carjack one other car and assaulted two folks in that car.

But as officers acquired nearer to the scene, Lewis and Melanie Diperna ran away.

A Rhode Island State Police Ok-9 later tracked the pair to a house in Ashaway, the place police say the 2 broke into. They had been finally discovered by police hiding within the basement.

Lewis and Diperna face many costs in Rhode Island, together with felony assault, tried theft, breaking and getting into, and possession of a stolen automobile. The two will likely be returned to New Hampshire to face costs there as effectively.

Both suspects are being held on the Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston, R.I.
