Disney art collections from Lion King, Snow White and others coming to Arlington museum

Private collections of Disney art will open on the Arlington Museum of Art this month.

The exhibit will function almost 250 unique animation sketches, character research, storyboards and idea drawings from Disney movies, together with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Bambi, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and others.

Many of the items are from the non-public assortment of Disney animator Andreas Deja and embody works by Deja, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston.

Deja, who was employed by Disney in 1980, oversaw the artistic improvement of a number of well-known villains, together with Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin and Scar in The Lion King.

Arlington Museum of Art President Chris Hightower stated the exhibit will supply guests a novel and immersive expertise.

“We want Disney Art from Private Collections to fill visitors with the same kind of wonder and joy they feel for their favorite Disney films,” Hightower stated in a press launch. “To create this kind of engaging experience, the museum is borrowing from the techniques animators use when they’re telling a story. Throughout the exhibition, we’ll share backstories, build in elements of surprise, create drama, and give visitors ways to interact, play, and learn.”

In addition to the exhibit, the Arlington Museum of Art is planning a number of applications, occasions and actions for kids and adults, together with a Disney animated movie collection.

An accompanying exhibit will showcase extra unique works by Deja, together with impartial initiatives like his coming quick movie Mushka, which tells the story of a younger lady and her tiger, animated in coloured pencil.

Deja stated within the press launch that he hopes guests will uncover that animation is a private type of creative expression.

“Traditional animation requires a great number of drawings for the purpose of bringing a character to life,” Deja stated. “No computer will help you in this quest; it is only you and many blank sheets of paper. The artist’s goal is not only to move drawings, but more importantly, to move audiences.”

Disney Art from Private Collections will likely be open June 11 via Sept. 4 on the Arlington Museum of Art, 201 W. Main St.
